Mayfield behaviour support Outreach Service

The aim of the Mayfield Behaviour Support Outreach service is to provide high quality advice and support to primary schools and the staff working with children and families.

We have an Outreach Lead Teacher together with a team of 3 outreach workers who aim to provide strategies to meet the needs of children who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties and associated challenging behaviour. We also have 1 outreach worker working with children with a diagnosis of Autism. We aim to offer practical and theoretical advice directly linked to classroom practice to support the child’s success within their mainstream placement.

Schools are able to refer to the service following parental/carer consent via a referral form.

The outreach team liaise closely with the team around the child within school, together with parents/carers to encourage continuity and consistency of approach. They provide 1:1 sessions within school together with the child and an identified key attachment adult. Emphasis is on modelling strategies and techniques over time which can be further embedded within school supporting the child’s progress.

Progress is monitored using an assessment tool called the Boxall Profile which identifies strengths and weaknesses socially and emotionally which can be targeted and developed further during sessions.

Mayfield SEND Outreach

Mayfield SEND Outreach service is here to provide support for the inclusion of pupils with complex, severe or multiple learning difficulties.  Through the service, mainstream schools are offered quality skilled professional support for pupils with a Statement of SEN, Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or at SEN Support.

Following a referral, an initial visit will be arranged to clarify the reasons for the referral and to meet the individual[s] involved.  The referring school will be expected to provide time for the referrer to meet with Outreach staff for a discussion and to facilitate a visit to the individual in his or her class setting.

Following the visit the school can expect written feedback which will include suggestions for strategies and interventions.  A further visit date will be arranged (if appropriate) for a specified member of the Outreach Service Team.

Mayfield will expect that the school will confirm dates and consider and implement any strategies suggested.

The Outreach team may send out a pre-visit form to schools between visits to request updated information and evaluations on current practice.
